1018   GREEK BRONZE MIRROR
           V c. B.C.

Forged bronze. Concave side of the disk has thickened and raised rim; the convex side is polished and decorated with punched dots along the perimeter. Bronze flat handle of parabolic form with half-circle termination at the free end, secured to concave side with three rivets. Handle is broken in several places and mended.
D. 5.8" (14.8 cm), H. 9.4" (23.9 cm).
Most likely this mirror was cast as one piece. When the handle was broken, it was riveted to the disk. Portion of circumference still bears handle protrusion where handle was snapped off.
