1226   IRON ARROWHEAD WITH A WHISTLE 
           XII-XIV century
Lenticular in cross-section blade, the tang under the blade has bulbous element with opposed apertures, which served as a whistle. L. 3.4" ( 8.6 cm).
This form derived from iron arrowheads with bone whistles, placed at upper tang. Some scholars believe that during the flight, such arrows produced a whistling noise that frightened the foe's horses. According to the Secret History of the Mongols (section 115), a whistling arrow of this kind was given to Temüchin by Jamuka, who made it from the horns of a two-year old bull, glued together and pierced.

The arrowheads of XII-XIV century do not differ significantly from the early Medieval ones. Unfortunately, the number of arrowheads scientifically datable to XII-XIV century is small. Here are some important publications on the Medieval arrowheads:
