Orange-red, fine-grained fabric with a thin, smooth slip.
Shallow, curved body with a flat horizontal rim. High flaring foot with an incised circular line on the exterior of the base. Numerous fine wheel marks on the lower body and exterior of the rim. The center of the interior is stamped with a cross monogram.
The cross monogram incorporating the Greek letter Ρ (rho) appeared in the 4th century A.D. In later developments, the rho gradually lost its original semantic significance and became increasingly decorative. The monogram on this dish illustrates this development, with rho-like elements appearing symmetrically on both sides of the central shaft of the cross.
